2012 Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown set for Richmond International Raceway

If you’re heading to Richmond International Raceway next weekend, you will get an extra treat – The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is set for Thursday, April 26th.

The Denny Hamlin Foundation was created in 2008 to aid in raising awareness and funding for Cystic Fibrosis research and treatment, as well as to support other not for profit corporations that focus on aiding children with debilitating illnesses.

Proceeds will benefit the Denny Hamlin Foundation, which supports organizations like the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, St. Jude’s Hospital and Victory Junction Camp. Tickets can be purchased at www.dennyhamlinfoundation.org.

This will be the foundation’s fifth year of running the Showdown. Seventy-five drivers, including over 50 of the best regional drivers, have been invited by The Denny Hamlin Foundation to qualify for the race, 52 cars will attempt to make the 36 car field. Twelve NASCAR stars will run the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model division race at Richmond International Raceway.

The charity race will be a one-day event, featuring practice and qualifying PRIOR to the Blue Ox 100 and then will run FOLLOWING the Blue Ox 100 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race.

Thursday’s ticket for the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is $25 and includes the Blue Ox 100. All seats are general admission and kids 12 and under are free with a ticketed adult.

Dover International Speedway, Pocono Raceway teaming up for celebrity softball game

Dover International Speedway and Pocono Raceway are pleased to announce the tracks are teaming up for a celebrity softball game featuring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Carl Edwards and Jeff Burton on Tuesday, May 15 at Campbell’s Field, home of the Camden Riversharks in Camden, N.J.

The game, billed as Team Dover vs. Team Pocono, marks the first time two NASCAR tracks have joined forces to promote their respective races. Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Fastenal Ford, will lead the Monster Mile squad, while Burton, who pilots the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet, will captain “The Tricky Triangle” team.

The teams rosters will be filled out with drivers from the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as well Philadelphia-area athletes and celebrities, and members of the local media. Gates open at 4 p.m. with the game beginning at 4:30 p.m. Following the game, Edwards and Burton will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the 7:05 p.m. Lancaster Barnstormers vs. Camden Riversharks baseball game.

During the Barnstormers vs. Riversharks game, both tracks will be giving away tickets to their respective NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races each inning — the June 3 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” race for Dover and the June 10 “Pocono 400″ race for Pocono.

Access to the Team Dover vs. Team Pocono celebrity softball game is free with a ticket to that night’s baseball game. Tickets for the Riversharks game start at just $5, and all children ages 16 and younger that wear their NASCAR gear get in free. In addition, the United Way of Camden County offers free admission for any child that wears the uniform of the little league team they play for to the game. OPEN DRIVERS MEETING

NASCAR and Rockingham Speedway are opening up the NCWTS drivers meeting for fans to come watch. The meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. April 15 in the garage at the speedway.

Fans are asked to enter the infield through the tunnel in turn four if they wish to take part in the drivers meeting. A ticket to the race serves as admission.

More than 50 drivers from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series are now confirmed to appear at the inaugural NASCAR Preview 2012 Presented by Sprint, scheduled for Jan. 21 in Charlotte, N.C. Race fans will have the chance to meet top competitors of the sport during the all-day fan event located inside the Charlotte Convention Center.

 

NASCAR Preview 2012 Presented by Sprint will offer a festival-like experience for fans that features driver autograph and question-and-answer sessions, show car appearances, simulators, games and more. The fan event is one of several events that comprise NASCAR Acceleration Weekend, which begins Friday, Jan. 20 with the NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for Class of 2012 inductees Richie Evans, Dale Inman, Darrell Waltrip, Glen Wood and Cale Yarborough. Following Saturday’s NASCAR Preview 2012 Presented by Sprint event will be the unveiling of the Class of 2012 exhibits in the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Sunday, Jan. 22.

 

“I’m really excited about this event coming back because I was sad it went away in the first place,” said Jeff Burton, driver of the No. 31 Chevrolet. “There are going to be plenty of chances for race fans to see their favorite drivers and get excited for another great season. It’s also a great opportunity to raise awareness of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Induction Ceremony that is taking place on that Friday.”

The NASCAR Preview 2012 Presented by Sprint season preview fan event is in high gear. Driver appearances by the newly crowned 2011 champions in the three NASCAR national series have been confirmed for the all-day event located inside the Charlotte Convention Center on Saturday, Jan. 21.
Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and first-time national series champions Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (NASCAR Nationwide Series) and Austin Dillon (NASCAR Camping World Truck Series) are scheduled for two-hour appearances that include driver autograph and on-stage question-and-answer sessions.
The NASCAR Preview 2012 Presented by Sprint is a new addition to the annual calendar. A festival-like event will feature driver and show car appearances, simulators, games, prizes and a host of other fan-friendly and interactive activities.
The event is part of the three-day NASCAR Acceleration Weekend from Jan. 20-22 in Charlotte, N.C. that gives race fans an unprecedented experience through a combination of events and activities featuring the legends of the sport and stars of today.
NASCAR Acceleration Weekend kicks off Friday, Jan. 20 with the NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for the Class of 2012, which features Darrell Waltrip, Cale Yarborough, Dale Inman, Richie Evans and Glen Wood.
