New Hampshire Motor Speedway offers Twitter followers chance to wave qualifying flag

Ten lucky fans will have the opportunity to wave the green flag during NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying during Fans First Pole Day on Friday, Sept. 23.  The contest will be run through Twitter and entering is simple.

Anyone that takes a picture at the track from now through Thursday and shares it on Twitter using #ILoveNHMS will be entered to win.  There is a maximum of one entry per day.  Pictures may be of anything from the track to FanFest to your camper to, well, whatever strikes your creative mind!

Entries will be randomly selected, so while you’re encouraged to take good photos, you don’t have to be a professional photographer to stand a chance at winning.  Winners will be selected Friday morning and contacted via Twitter.  Due to the nature of the contest, everyone that wins must be present to participate and if you can’t make it, there is no way to reschedule or substitute prizes.

Each winner will have the opportunity to wave the flag for one Sprint Cup driver during their qualifying session, which begins at 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 23.  Winners will be assigned a driver and will not be able to choose any specific vehicle.  Ear protection is recommended.

Century old diehard NASCAR fan dream comes true at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

99-year old Rachel Gilbert has her dream come true by taking the New Hampshire Pace car for a spin out on the track in celebration of her 100th birthday.

I saw the highlights on tv the other night that 99-year old Rachel Gilbert, who has been a diehard race fan, had her dream come true and took to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the pace car …reaching whooping speeds of up to 55 mph!! This was in collaboration in celebrating her 100th birthday. How cool is that?

Her life in the fast lane accelerated as early as 1960 when she followed her husband and “the good ole’ boys” to Loudon, N.H.’s, Bryar Motorsports Park. Nearly two decades later, while Gilbert’s family was vacationing in Florida, they attended the Daytona 500 where she saw stock car legends Richard Petty and Bobby Allison fight to the finish.  Then she was hooked.

Bowyer cutting it close with NASCAR’s inspections

NASCAR is taking a closer look at Clint Bowyer’s race-winning car from New Hampshire. The #33 Chevy passed its initial inspection following Sunday’s victory, but since NASCAR discovered issues with the car in a more thorough inspection at its research and development center after last week’s Richmond race.

Though NASCAR does not typically strip wins from drivers, a car that fails inspection would lead to a significant points penalty.

Bowyer’s wins pushed him to second from 12th in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, 35 points behind leader Denny Hamlin

RICHMOND

NASCAR warned Richard Childress Racing that Clint Bowyer’s car came close to failing inspection after his Chase-clinching drive at Richmond.

“This one just seemed to be different, and we felt we owed it to them to make sure they just aren’t off in one area,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR Vice President of competition. Bowyer’s car was chosen by NASCAR for random inspection following his sixth-place finish at the Sept. 11 race.

No. 2 Penske Racing team caught with an extra set of tires, penalized

Kurt Busch was attempting to make a mock qualifying run with a pair of scuffed left tires AND a fresh pair of right “sticker” tires, which could only be possible with an extra set of tires. NASCAR then accused the No. 2 Penske team for harboring the extra set from the No. 64 Gunselman Motorsports organization. Busch’s crew chief, Steve Addington, claims it was a miscommunication with NASCAR.

The No. 2 Penske team was penalized and will lose a set of tires for Saturday’s two practice sessions.  The No. 2 Dodge will have to run both sessions with just two sets of tires. Teams are allowed six set of tires for practice and qualifying at New Hampshire. Addington will retain all eight sets of his tires for the Sylvania 300 on Sunday.

Kurt Busch posted the 12th fastest lap during qualifying with a speed of 132.864 mph.
